EMPI’s Ball Joint, Disc Brake Drop Spindles are brand new units, not re-manufactured old cores! CNC machined to exact tolerances. These forged drop spindles feature 1/4″ outwards offset so clearance is usually not an issue. The drop spindles are made for 4-lug VW (4×130) and 5-Lug Porsche (5×130) disc brake rotors. These spindles are the first step to a brake system upgrade while giving you the built-in 2 1/2″ lower stance just by bolting them on. These drop spindles are made for use with stock shocks.
Important notes:
- Drop spindles are not compatible with Super Beetles!
- Compatible with Type 1 ball joint front ends (Beetle and Karmann Ghia, 1966-1977).
- 1966 through May 1968 models require June 1968 through 1977 inner wheel bearings, wheel seals, and outer tie rod ends.
Additional parts required for 1966–May 1968 vehicles:
- Wheel bearing and seal kit (PN# 22-2851)
- Driver’s side outer tie rod end (PN# 311415811C)
- Passenger side outer tie rod end (PN# 311415812C)
Tire recommendations:
- 145R15 tires or shorter recommended with drop spindles
- 135R15 tires or shorter required if using an adjustable beam with spindles
Tire compatibility:
Drop spindles require shorter, smaller-diameter tires to maintain proper driveability. While stock-sized tires may appear to fit when parked, they will rub during driving, especially around corners or over speed bumps. Heavier loads will increase the likelihood of rubbing. For optimal performance, smaller tires are necessary as stock tires will not clear.
