Chrome Maintenance and What to Expect:
Chrome plating metal is an electro-plating process that is highly regulated due to the chemicals involved.Chrome products made today don’t go through the same preparation & plating procedures they did 60 years ago. Many chemicals contained mercury and cyanide and have been banned for environmental reasons.
- We highly recommend maintaining any chrome on your vehicle by applying a car wax or detailing spray on a regular basis
- Consider coating the backside of your bumper with paint or a rust inhibitor.
- Triple chrome bumpers that are properly maintained and kept in dry, non-salty-air environments will last for years
- If you don’t maintain the chrome and/or your vehicle is exposed to moisture and/or salt, there is a higher chance that you will see rusting and pitting.
- Single chrome bumpers are economically priced and more succeptible to rusting and pitting
